According to Turkish dictator Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey is simply too advanced for the European Union which cannot even effectively fight terrorism. However, the Turkish leader did also mention that if the EU was ever going to “leap forward,” it would definitely have to  grant Turkey full membership status.

Speaking before the Turkish parliament, Erdogan brought it upon himself to confess his sincerest beliefs about the EU. “To tell the truth, we don’t need EU membership anymore,” he said.

Erdogan then went on the add that the “EU failed [Turkey] in [the] fight against terrorism,” making reference to the harboring of his main opposition (Gulenists) and support for Kurdish militants by Western European nations.

“If the EU is going to leap forward, there is only one way to do so,” the Turkish leader said offering a solution. “It is to grant Turkey membership and start an action of cultural and economic growth.”

Here it can be seen that, in the finest traditions of Erdogan, the Turkish leader attempted to trick EU membership deciders using reverse psychology, but then in the same sentence also revealed quite apparently that he was using reverse psychology to achieve a long-sought place for Turkey in the intergovernmental coalition.
