Is that increase due to a falling currency as well, or is it an actual increase in the price itself?FCKGW wrote:Gas prises here in the netherlands have been increasing but no where near the rate as in te US. Still, it's fucked up.

I just saw this morning an CNBC a talk about the gas prices verses the dollar. the US has over a 300% gain in fuel costs while Europe has only a 91% gain. The oil really costs the same. They were trying to frame the report on ending the dependence on middle east oil, which really does nothing. Actually, the more prosperous people are, the less prone to violence they are. But the guest speaker used those percentages to illustrate how it's the value of the dollar.
If only they would let Ron Paul talk to the nation like the president does, in a few months when things are bad, then it would sink it. Most people still don't know who he is.

Well, Oil is also worth more now. I don't have the expertise to calculate it's value independent of currencies. This just illustrates what a mess our currency is in.Int'l man of mystery wrote:So is the 91% gain in Europe also a currency issue (albeit, one not as bad as the dollar's)?GamerS wrote:I just saw this morning an CNBC a talk about the gas prices verses the dollar. the US has over a 300% gain in fuel costs while Europe has only a 91% gain. It's sad, the masses think this is just a slump in the economy. For quite a while I have thought that the good ride in the US was over. And today I saw Ted Turner commenting on CNN that Americans need to get used to making do with less and need to be less materialistic and judge quality of life and not quantity. He said the age of big cars and big homes are over in the US and families should be buying smaller homes and one car per family. Damn!

3.75 a gallon for regular here.......
I walk, bike and take the stroller with my kids as much as possible and would even if gas was cheap because I hate to drive but sometimes I have to. There are no busses, trains etc here so we are fucked.
We need the June 21st Ron Paul Rally to be huge and spark the fire. This country is ripe for change. We cannot give up. Once the Democrats fuck up as well people will be ready for someone like Ron Paul.

It's an island...you can't close the beach without massive economic damage.

You are right about this. People are remembering fairly good times during the Clinton presidency, and are expecting a magic turnaround once Bush is gone. Even if it does not come, they will think it's just republican damage taking long to repair. But they need to be disappointed to see that the country is run by crooks. You'd think 2006 would have woke them up. They're dupes.general hoke wrote: Once the Democrats fuck up as well people will be ready for someone like Ron Paul.
You know, I think that complacent Americans deserve to pay $4 a gallon for gas. If they are indifferent or support the war, then I don't give a shit if they lose their homes and jobs. Serves 'em right. They stood by while their country committed mass murder. Have they ever stood on the street corner and held a sign in protest? I have.
First you disagree and then you give the exact reason I think so in the first place.Tim wrote:I disagree. Around here people are just blaming bush and have no real explanation for the high gas prices when you ask them. Most likely they'll just bitch about it and still fork over the extra money either way. People are mostly sheep and do whatever the government says without questioning thus proving how a douche bag administration can be elected TWICE and ruin the entire world over an 8 year time frameRaising gasprices is to bug people into thinking war with iran is the solution to ease the pain a bit.

The euro is fiat currency as well, which means that it's prone to the same ups and downs of every fiat-based economy. It just hasn't tanked as much as the dollar yet. With our current system, it's impossible to avoid inflation, but Bush is expediting things. Especially with stupid shit like a stimulus package that is really just putting us deeper in debt and speeding up the recession train.Int'l man of mystery wrote:So is the 91% gain in Europe also a currency issue (albeit, one not as bad as the dollar's)?
