Zarquwi my opinion (Ry)
I think it is mainly for US PR. I dont think this will stop the insurgents one bit as they do not attack the US because some guy told them to. They do it because they hate us because we are killing their children and bombing their cities.
this mentality of everyone is following a leader or is somehow brainwashed by a cleric is nonsense. They fight us because we invaded them its simple. Zarquawis name has never even been mentioned on our forum because no body thought he was important it was just the US's latest boogyman, the media is who built him up to knock him down. Nothing will change in Iraq.
The guy mostly likely died along time ago but they had to blame the deaths of non-zionist journalist on somebody. The Japanese reporters investigating Depleted Uranium were killed by the US and blamed on Zarquwi. The Italians in Fallujah were shot but Segrna survived and thus the US has to say US troops shot her but it was a mistake.

I agree about the PR. They [us media] keep saying that he was Iraq's head of Al-Queda. Has this been confirmed? I thought that he was just an Iraqi nationalist. Odd, but I could be wrong.Ry wrote:I think it is mainly for US PR. I dont think this will stop the insurgents one bit as they do not attack the US because some guy told them to. Also US media keeps saying that "the world's leaders" were "releved" at this news...but all they can seem to pull out as quotes (that I've found) is the Big Tony from the UK. I guess he's the "international community" now.
I agree that, temporarily it won't do anything but boost ratings (in theory) especially since it's the start of "summer" and it seems that the repubs always have some big thing at that point in the election cycle. One more right when school starts again, and then another the weekend of the "election". Usually some big roundup, etc.
I DO think that in the end this strategy has worked pretty well over the past several hundred years for England and the US of killing any potent resistence leaders. It helps breed apathy in resistance movements. I cite the assinations in the black and worker movements in the US. Also Englands hits over it's colonial history. Everytime a leader that is of any substance rises they are killed.
I think this is the longterm strategy from UK/S. As far as him being created in the media, you are correct...but I believe it is to create apathy and terrorize the opostiton in the long run. This will all stick in memories when any think of rebellion, and will be used to show that "people must just work within the system".
This doesn't mean that I condone it, just that this is the strategy.

There have been numerous reports released detailing that Zarqawi's importance is artificially inflated. It makes a good story for the funny papers. It creates a nefarious boogeyman of sorts for politicians to latch on to. Of course the reality is that one man by himself is nothing.
Although the Bush Administration would like you to believe otherwise the truth is that practically none of the "terrorism" that occurs in Iraq can be attributed to foreign fighters. The vast majority is homegrown and a direct response to the US incursion or infighting between religious and ethnic sects.

I agree in the short term...I mean in 40 years or so when Iraq is pacified...if it is. The Uk/S has been pretty successful in the past at turning losses into victories.Ry wrote:everyone will see that he was insignificant after his death comes and goes the the insurgentcy will not skip a beat.

A news channel the other day reported that the US was able to kill some 20 "senior aides" to Zarqawi over the last two years. So Zarqawi has more "senior aides" than Bush, Napoleon, and Bill Gates?
