Just got back from the theater. The movie is less about politics and is a character study of George W. Bush. Don't expect conspiracy theory, but do expect an intimate deconstruction and subsequent humanization of George W. Bush.
Anyone else see it?
Oliver Stone movie "W."

Heard it made Bush look like a well intentioned country goof. Made it look like WMDs were incompotence rather than conscious lies.

Yes, that's certainly true. Bush is portrayed as the "true believer" in spreading freedom and democracy- the darker more malicious aspects are filled in by the Cheney character and Rove. I think the point of the movie is W. as a character, not the politics or the things he did. Don't look to this movie for new insight on 9/11 or the war.Ry wrote:Heard it made Bush look like a well intentioned country goof. Made it look like WMDs were incompetence rather than conscious lies.
At its core, W. is about George W. Bush's sense of self-inadequacy. The recurring theme of the movie is W. trying to maintain control over his life and please his father while struggling with alcoholism and narcissism.
The movie did a good (accurate) job portraying Cheney and Rove as the string pullers and Bush as the pawn or figurehead. Cheney has a Wormtongue (see Lord of the Rings) quality in the movie, which I think is close to reality. But much of the dialogue is definitely fictionalized. I didn't personally appreciate the movie because of the politics, I appreciated it due to the performances and character studies.
For us film industry people and geeks alike, there were some great (ridiculously complicated) hand held shots and optical effects.
I left the theater feeling pity towards W., not anger as much.

When I heard that Jeff Ganon wasn't even in the storyline I figured it'd be a waste of time.

More "blame Bush " controlled dissent propaganda. Oliver Stone , Tim Robbins, and the rest of the Huffington Piss crowd are all either idiots or cowards , I'm guessing cowards. Unless you specifically mention Zionists and Jewish extremists then you're not doing a damn thing.

Re: Oliver Stone movie "W."
I'll prolly rent it when it comes out on video. Josh Brolin is a great actor, so I'll watch it for that. And that's about it. Wasn't expecting much from this one, not really a Stone fan honestly..
