I use kubuntu linux.

I used to use gentoo linux but finally got sick of recompiling all the time. I'll probably go back to it at some point.

:scratches head:

Hmmm. So anyone else still using Windows 95?

No? Just me?

Oh, yeah. That was just a joke, anyway.

I have vista on this lab top. I have firefox working fine, but many other programs don't work or don't work well (like PG guardian). The user account control is the dumbest idea ever made. That commercial with mac vs. pc does not exaggerate. It asks you if you want to open the program and then asks you again if you want continue? Like I wasn't sure the first time... Least you can turn that off through control panel>User accounts and family safety>user accounts>turn user account control on or off. But I'm going to stick with vista for now even though I can change to xp anytime.

I have Vista Ultimate on my new HP media center PC. It works fine. However, it did take a lot of getting used to. For those of us familiar with XP and try the same tweaks and methods used there, you're going to run into problems.

I have had to to about 3 clean installs to successfully effect my tweaks and configure it the way I want it to work. It was all a learning process.

A tip to new users, do not disable UAC and DO install programs under YOUR login, not 'Run as Administrator.' Installing programs as Administrator elevates the program privileges and requires permission to run under any circumstances. If a program is installed under your login, it won't require the dreaded pop-up prompt and work smoothly.

I also advise you NOT install any program not designed for Vista as certain parts of a program might require XP compatibility and have UAC conflicts (what everybody is complaining about).

At the end of the day, it's just another OS that needs one to get used to. Worries about DRM and all other concerns, IMO, are overblown. You can get Vista go work effectively, well, if you're a power user. I think this round of the OS might be a bit too complicated for the average user and M$ might iron out the kinks in the successive versions, hopefully.
