Recently the supreme court passed legistlation to allow corporations to take over private homes in the name of "economic development". If the the buisness is proven to benefit the community, then the company has the right to take the home and pay whatever price they feel is reasonable for the people living there.
Just seemed interesting, thought people around here would like it.

Well yeah, but from what I understand, all states have different eminent domain laws and they've existed for a while. Aaaand.. I think the Supreme Court ruling for what was it, Conneticut (?) means that if other states challenge their eminent domain laws that they get the same thing Conneticut does because of the ruling. Or not. I'm not sure. Someone break it down for me.

So far this issue has been inner city. What is this going to do for farmers, wildlife, conservation, forest, parks? Are there any types of property that will remain protected? I know that eminent domain has always been around, but does this lessen the amount of the bid for property. I have known some people to come out 'better off' by giving up their land for development.
