A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified, reports said on Wednesday, but conflicting stories emerged over whether the individual had been arrested.

The Associated Press issued a breaking news alert, citing a law enforcement official, that said that the Boston Marathon bombing suspect is in custody and is slated for federal court

Other outlets didn’t mention custody, but did say a suspect had been arrested.

Earlier, CNN’s John King said that according to sources, video from the department store Lord & Taylor, located near the site of the bombings, and from a local TV station captured images of the person who is now considered a suspect.

King and CNN’s Fran Townsend said that according to several sources, including federal and Boston law enforcement sources, an arrest has been made.

Fox also reported the arrest, citing a source. Outlets including NBC disputed reports about the arrest.

A law enforcement source told POLITICO just after 2 p.m. that there have been no arrests and an imminent arrest is not expected.

The Boston Globe earlier also highlighted the role that cameras may have played in determining the suspect.

“The camera from Lord & Taylor is the best source of video so far,” said Dot Joyce, a spokeswoman for Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, in a Boston Globe report. “All I know is that they are making progress.”

The Boston Globe tweeted that according to a source, “Authorities have an image of a suspect carrying, and perhaps dropping, a black bag at the second bombing scene.”

The Globe also issued a tweet, citing a source, that said “Officials are “very close” in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing.

OK I am going to say right now that this is hurried Media and BS The so called photo "evidence" that is online everywhere which consist of little more than drawling red circles around anybody with a backpack is lame. They will show an all black strap and yet the debris has a white of silver stripe on it. They don't circle that though because it doesn't fit with the narrative. It does set up the grounds for the back pack police though.

I am skeptical about all of this

I'm super skeptical of all the reports that came out this afternoon. I was at work with the radio on & also was keeping up on the web. In fact I feel that the MSM was doing the same thing. When 4chan was mentioned on WBUR (Boston based NPR station) it seemed like they were reporting what was going on in the web more than from official sources. I'm just north on Boston & my a friend of mine is a cop in town. I saw him today & he just said don't believe a thing cause NO ONE has a clue right now. As an aside, I get it so clearly how other humans that have "experienced"American foreign policy and I feel such attacks more tangibly right now. I'm pretty pissed about the bombing, here in Mass & all the others that go unreported in Iraq, Afgan, Yemen, Pakistan... Ugggghh, dark times for sure

Yet they aren't releasing it to the public which leads me to believe that it's either a) being crafted by the feds or b) the dude is a white lone wolf.

FBI scolds media: 'Exercise Caution and Attempt to Verify Information Through Appropriate Official Channels Before Reporting'

After multiple media outlets (especially CNN) wrongly reported that an arrest had been made in Boston, the FBI is urging media to "exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting."

"Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting," says the FBI's Boston office in a statement to the media.

CNN’s double breakdown: So much for ‘abundance of caution’

And identifying characteristics quickly seemed to have little relevance here: Authorities had arrested the suspect, as CNN reported today as well. Then we found out that the authorities had done no such thing. Official sources are now very much on the record denying CNN’s report of an arrest in the case.

So the network piled one failure—a “dark-skinned” suspect—on top of another—an arrest that didn’t exist. It’s all proof that you can say “abundance of caution” over and over without actually acting on it. In looking back at the reportorial failure, King noted that “part of this reflects on us,” but part of it also reflects on sources and authorities. That’s not exactly taking ownership.

They dont have anyone that or it turned out to be an Israeli in which case the bomber will never be found.

Obama meets with Saudi foreign minister; not on public schedule

Obama met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal at the White House on Wednesday and discussed the conflict in Syria, a spokeswoman said.

The meeting was not on Obama's public schedule.

REPORT: Saudi Student -- 'Person of Interest' in Boston Bombings -- To Be Deported?

The Saudi “person of interest” suspected of being involved in the Boston Marathon bombings is being deported from the United States next week on “national security grounds,” according to a terrorism expert, who notes that the move is “very unusual,” especially given an unscheduled meeting yesterday between President Obama and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.

According to terrorism expert Steve Emerson, 20-year-old Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi national first suspected of being involved in Monday’s twin bomb attack, is being hastily deported. Alharbi was put under armed guard in hospital after the bombing, was visited by Saudi diplomat Azzam bin Abdel Karim, and later had his apartment raided by federal and state law enforcement agents.

“I just learned from my own sources that he is now going to be deported on national security grounds next Tuesday, which is very unusual,” Emerson told Fox News last night.

A scheduled 10 a.m. photo op between John Kerry and the Saudi Foreign Minister was also abruptly cancelled on Tuesday morning because Kerry was tired from his busy schedule, an explanation that journalists refused to swallow, with the Associated Press’ Matt Lee telling spokesman Patrick Ventrell, “I find it hard to believe that you expect us to believe that that’s the real reason for this.”
