You have no idea how right you are. Everytime I go to a casual forum or place there is always some loon spreading propaganda and the stupid people go "0mg 0h teH noes! They are teh ists!" without ever even doing any true research on the topic. America had very little moral high ground on which to stand proir to invading Iraq. We have propped up dictators, overthrown democratically elected governments and fostered the rise in terrorism with our blind support of Israel.
Add to this the fact that we supplied the very weapons of mass destruction we accused Saddam of using against his own people and it is clear that precious little high ground could remain.
If we are serious in wanting to stop terrorism and foster peace and democracy in the world we must be willing to change course. We must end our blind support of Israel's every act of aggression towards the palastinians, and instead encourage true pace talks and measures designed to bring about a lasting peace in the region. Israel can not claim moral high ground when they are engaged in terrorist activities and genocidal policies toward palestine.
Most of the radical Islamist groups who are committing terrorists acts have all been citing the same reasons for decades. Why hasn't anyone listened to or even investigated the validity of their claims? We have blindly stood by Israel since it's beginning. We have refused to see the wrongs committed by them on a daily basis to the detriment of the palestinians. When one looks at the toll this conflict has had on each side in the past few years it becomes obvious that Israel cannot be acting solely in self defense as the dead and injured are disproportionally on the Palestinian side by over a 10:1 margin.
To begin to make an honest and fair peace in the middle east we need to reform our policy. I have several steps that should bring about an atmosphere where true peace can occur.
1. Stop all aid to Israel and Palestine outside of humanitarian aid designed for feeding and providing medical treatment to the people.
2. Enforce UN resolution 242 which Israel has been in violation of for years.
3. Remove the 501 (c) status of any organization which sends support to either party and levy stiff fines on violators.
4.End arms sales and shipments to Israel.
5. Demand that both Israel and Palestine renounce their violence and terrorits ways as the US will refuse to recognize either state until this requirement is met.
6. The US must end all military operations which are not for the sole purpose of peotecting the people of the region from imminent harm.
So long as we are taking sides in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict we can never hope to see real peace. We must become and remain a neutral thrid party to haveany chance at success. We are scorned by the many militant Islamist groups mainly because of our having taken sides in favor of Israel. We cannot hope to see a reduction in terrorism and a lasting peace in the middle east if we do not become neutral.
The steps I have listed above are not all inclusive but provide a framework to work towards true neutrality in the region, thereby opening up the potential for the setlement of the disputes in the entire region. This can only be accomplished if we first establish ourselves as a neutral party.
Iran will lose their support from militant groups for the overthrow of Israel if peace is reached on a level field. There is hope for peace in the region but not so long as the current policies are in effect. The current policies do more to foster the growth of terrorism and strife than any other factor. The only winners in the current policy are the Israeli governmet and the Military Industrial Complex which is seeing record profits while the US treasury is being looted. It is time for reason to prevail and and end put to these policies which harm the American public by draining tax dollars better used at home, and are killing thousands without need.
