Ry, have you ever looked into the bioregional movement? It's all about basing local sovereignty on regions defined by cultural and ecological boundaries instead of arbitrary political constructs. I think that's an especially interesting idea in light of the fact that we live in a world filled with the failed results of attempts to impose Western-style nation-states on heterogenous regions like the Middle East or Southeast Asia.
planet over property
community over competition
well-being over wealth
cooperation over control

The county commissioner died in Hatteras this month. And right now they face disasterfrom storms on the beach which is uncovering buildings that were buried in the 1970s.
The politicians don't do a thing because they profit from disaster. They own the construction companies etc.
Now I would love to Hatteras and Okracoke Island to seceed and start there own government seperate from North Carolina. The make plenty of money and could fix their own beaches.
A gov centered around thier unique environments.
