Re: Collateral Murder
Coming from an Ex-Soldier who knows the "Rules of Engagement" I can tell you what you already know... That was just plain murder. Those men, even if they had been carrying weapons, were posing no threat to anyone. Their posture and actions were non-aggressive. Also, how the hell do you mistake two cameras for AK-47s!? They don't even have similar profiles! The final part of the video was pure murder no matter how you look at it. It was a group of civilians loading up a single injured man to take him to the hospital. You can hear the gunman and pilot lying to HQ for permission to fire also. They said that a van pulled up and started loading up the bodies. First off, those "vans" are very common in Iraq. They are the Iraqi equivalent to mini-vans and suvs. Secondly, they were not taking the bodies, they went only to the injured, and unarmed, man. Also, in the grainy, poor quality video you can clearly see the two kids in the front of the van. If those pilots didn't have blood and murder on their minds they might have seen them to.......or maybe they did see them and just kept it to themselves. They were looking through multi-hundred-thousand dollar high powered optics. How the hell do they mistake two cameras for AK's and not see to kids!? These people committed murder, plain and simple. This was no enemy engagement. I spent a year in Baghdad and I can tell you that there is nothing unusual about guys with weapons. There were numerous Iraqi Police who did not wear uniforms as well as numerous private security who carried weapons. I know this wasn't Baghdad but the laws are the same across the country so I can't imagine it's much different else were. So even if there was a weapon in one of their hands, that is not unusual and they posed no threat to anyone. Not a single one of them aimed his weapon or got into any sort of combat stance. An RPG!? You can clearly see it's a damn camera with a large optical!

In the news over here they use that shite word "allegedly" again.

Re: Collateral Murder
not only that the media is defending this video and acknowledging that they had AK's and RPGs. As usual they have the military expert as if his opinion was at all unbiased.

If you guys haven't been following Greenwald's commentary on this it's been spot on, basically going back to last week before the video was even released where he generally defends Wikileaks. Anyway, there's links in this article from yesterday

Glenn wrote: But there's a serious danger when incidents like this Iraq slaughter are exposed in a piecemeal and unusual fashion: namely, the tendency to talk about it as though it is an aberration. It isn't. It's the opposite: it's par for the course, standard operating procedure, what we do in wars, invasions, and occupation. The only thing that's rare about the Apache helicopter killings is that we know about it and are seeing what happened on video. And we're seeing it on video not because it's rare, but because it just so happened (a) to result in the deaths of two Reuters employees, and thus received more attention than the thousands of other similar incidents where nameless Iraqi civilians are killed, and (b) to end up in the hands of WikiLeaks, which then published it. But what is shown is completely common. That includes not only the initial killing of a group of men, the vast majority of whom are clearly unarmed, but also the plainly unjustified killing of a group of unarmed men (with their children) carrying away an unarmed, seriously wounded man to safety -- as though there's something nefarious about human beings in an urban area trying to take an unarmed, wounded photographer to a hospital.
